EKG Tech I
Under general supervision of department head and functional direction of a RN, instructs and prepares patients and performs electrocardiograms in the outpatient setting. Assists w/ Cardiology procedures including but not limited to ambulatory EKG monitoring/scanning, exercise stress testing, and pacemaker monitoring. Operates equipment in performance of cardiac procedures. Scans/reads/calculates machine tracings. Performs paperwork functions/coordinates the maintenance of equipment. Complies w/ policies and procedures of the Organization and Cardiology Department.

- Upholds KPs Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Instruct and prepare patients, perform EKGs, ambulatory EKG monitoring (Holters), and assists w/ exercise stress tests (treadmills).
- Monitor patient vital signs during and after the procedures.
- Perform paperwork functions including logs, l ab slips, charts, forms, requisitions, filing, scheduling of appointments, and collect data for Quality Assurance.
- Interview patients, collect data, prepare exam results, and inform physician/Sr. or RN of test results.
- Assemble/disassemble Holter/Treadmill equipment.
- Check emergency equipment, prepare procedure rooms, re-stock, clean/sterilize equipment, and arrange for repair of equipment.
- Scan and calculate machine tracings (Holter), and forwards to physician for interpretation.
- Maintains records of all testing and prepare periodic workload statistics.
- Orients and trains new or less experienced personnel.
- Provide functional direction to assigned staff, and serves a resource to co-workers by answering procedural questions.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
- One (1) year of clinical experience in Cardiology.
- Medical Office Assistant training required.
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, and push equipment as required.
- Completed course in Basic Arrhythmia Recognition.
- N/A
- Ability to recognize cardiac arrhythmias.
- Knowledge of 12-lead EKGs.
- Completion of a basic arrythmia training course.
- Supports device clinic.
