Manager, Health Information Management Operations
Reviews and manages documentation by leveraging ingenuity while retrieving, completing, correcting, amending, transcribing, scanning, archiving, retaining, releasing, and/or filing complex medical records to support accurate and compliant health information management. Plans for the effective long-term analysis and reporting of data by generating reports that can be used internally or for state, federal, or other regulatory agencies that determine issues that may need to be remediated/escalated. Ensures compliance by maintaining advanced knowledge and ensuring the department stays up-to-date on industry standards, guidelines, and applicable laws to ensure documentation integrity and compliance. Engages in stakeholder management responsibilities by building collaborative relationships with local and regional stakeholders to ensure effective use of clinical documentation/data and provide consultation on health information policies and procedures. Engages in continuous improvement behaviors by leading the teams efforts with other departments to identify improvement opportunities in health information policies and procedures.
- Provides developmental opportunities for others; builds collaborative, cross-functional relationships. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; works closely with employees to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to drive performance improvement. Pursues professional growth; develops and provides training and development to talent for growth opportunities; supports execution of performance management guidelines and expectations. Leads, adapts, implements, and stays up to date with organizational change, challenges, feedback, best practices, processes, and industry trends. Fosters open dialogue amongst team members, engages, motivates, and promotes collaboration within and across teams. Delegates tasks and decisions as appropriate; provides appropriate support, guidance, and scope; encourages development and consideration of options in decision making.
- Manages designated work unit or team by translating business plans into tactical action items; oversees the completion of work assignments and identifies opportunities for improvement; ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Aligns team efforts; builds accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results; determines and ensures processes and methodologies are implemented; resolves escalated issues as appropriate; sets standards and measures progress. Fosters the development of work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; obtains and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; identifies and addresses improvement opportunities; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly; influences teams to execute in alignment with operational objectives.
- Ensures compliance by: maintaining and adopting comprehensive knowledge, ensuring the team stays up-to-date, and implementing new compliance industry standards, guidelines, and applicable laws to ensure documentation integrity and compliance; and representing the organization in legal proceedings as the Custodian of the Medical Records.
- Engages in continuous improvement efforts by: leading the team to support collaborative efforts with other departments to identify improvement opportunities in health information policies and procedures; and leading the team in the design, implementation, and evaluation of quality assurance methods to deliver high-quality, cost-effective medical records and health information management.
- Manages the analysis and reporting of data by: overseeing the gathering and summarizing of data to be used internally or for routine and non-routine reports to effectively develop and implement projects.
- Manages the review and management of documentation by: monitoring team members when retrieving, completing, transcribing, scanning, archiving, retaining, releasing, and filing medical records to support accurate and compliant health information management; and communicating with providers to remedy complex documentation deficiencies while escalating to upper management/directors as needed.

- Minimum one (1) year of experience managing operational or project budgets.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.
- Bachelors degree in Health Information Management, Health Care Administration, Business or related field AND minimum five (5) years of experience in health information management or directly related field OR Minimum eight (8) years of experience in health information management or a directly related field.
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Certificate OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Certificate OR Microcredentials from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) (i.e., Release of Information, Patient Identification & Matching, or Health Data Literacy).
