Job Summary:

Develops and manages others in the design and execution of complex community relations activities, long-term strategic management of stakeholders/vendors for these activities, and design of program evaluations for ensuring future success. Guides others in identifying, managing, and nurturing relationships, and negotiating and strategizing with stakeholders to oversee community relations activities and create and/or strengthen visibility. Contributes to the development of strategic plans and initiatives and leads on-going strategic efforts to maintain impact and effectiveness, and provides guidance and oversight on policies and processes for addressing community needs, and brand/reputation management. Identifies and aligns sponsorships with business needs, guides team in negotiating with sponsorship partners on deliverables and their fulfillment and maintaining appropriate event and/or program budgets.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides developmental opportunities for others; builds collaborative, cross-functional relationships. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; works closely with employees to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to drive performance improvement. Pursues professional growth; develops and provides training and development to talent for growth opportunities; supports execution of performance management guidelines and expectations. Leads, adapts, implements, and stays up to date with organizational change, challenges, feedback, best practices, processes, and industry trends. Fosters open dialogue amongst team members, engages, motivates, and promotes collaboration within and across teams. Delegates tasks and decisions as appropriate; provides appropriate support, guidance, and scope; encourages development and consideration of options in decision making.

  • Manages designated work unit or team by translating business plans into tactical action items; oversees the completion of work assignments and identifies opportunities for improvement; ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Aligns team efforts; builds accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results; determines and ensures processes and methodologies are implemented; resolves escalated issues as appropriate; sets standards and measures progress. Fosters the development of work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; obtains and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; identifies and addresses improvement opportunities; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly; influences teams to execute in alignment with operational objectives.

  • Seeks to understand and address community needs by: identifying trends in research and information related to community concerns, issues, and expectations to support the intersection of both community and business operational need; and reviewing and analyzing complex data and/or information to identify potential opportunities to add value in collaboration with Community Health and Operations partners.

  • Promotes employee and community engagement in alignment with business strategy by: contributing to the development of comprehensive plans and initiatives; leading on-going strategic efforts to maintain impact and effectiveness; and providing guidance and oversight on policies and processes to address community need, community partnerships or community presence, employee engagement, and brand/reputation management.

  • Supports critical community relationships by: guiding and providing consultative direction to team on the management of relationships with, and strategizing with stakeholders from community organizations to oversee community relations activities (e.g., events, investments, sponsorships), and completion of tasks to ensure asset execution and alignment with brand; guiding others to identify and nurture relationships with, and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to create and/or strengthen influence and visibility in the community; and serving on multiple community and other local task forces, committees, and planning groups, and synthesizing and reporting on work and alignment of business imperatives with these groups for KP leadership.

  • Serves as an educational and informational resource to others, internally and externally, by: providing information and helping to develop educational materials for community leaders; and acting as a consultant to internal departments on community health care and/or community relations process and policy.

  • Contributes to successful internal and external community programming by: developing and managing others to execute projects, initiatives, and programs that support business objectives and community relations; leading the conception, design, and execution of complex employee engagement activities, community initiatives, and special events aligned with operational and business priorities and community engagement strategy; contributing to and guiding team on the long-term strategic management of internal/external stakeholders and vendors to execute employee engagement and other internal activities, community initiatives, and events; and guiding team on designing program evaluations and utilizing outcome metrics and feedback to improve performance of projects, initiatives, events, and their respective impacts, synthesizing and reporting on overall findings to leadership.

  • Supports various sponsorship program activities by: identifying and aligning sponsorships with business needs and objectives; guiding team in negotiating with sponsorship partners on deliverables that align with KP business needs, and managing timely processing and fulfillment of said the deliverables, and maintaining appropriate event and/or program budgets; guiding others in managing relationships with Legal and Compliance to ensure sponsorship is compliant with KP policies and practices; and managing others in coordinating with internal stakeholders (e.g., Sales & Account Management, KP Community Benefit) to ensure sponsorship participation and activation.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience managing operational or project budgets.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in community and external affairs or a directly related field.

  • Bachelors degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Sociology, Marketing, Business, Communications, Community Relations, Political Science, Public Relations, or related field AND minimum six (6) years of experience in community relations, community outreach, public relations, health care or public policy, nonprofit administration, or a directly related field OR Minimum nine (9) years of experience in community relations, community outreach, public relations, health care or public policy, nonprofit administration, or a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a matrixed organization.
  • Three (3) years of experience building and managing relationships with external stakeholders.
