Job Summary:

Under the immediate supervision of the Department Administrator or Coordinating Optometrist, performs the necessary duties relating to the Contact Lens Technician position; which includes insertion and removal of patients contact lenses; patient contact lenses insertion and removal training; routine contact lenses cleaning and trial fitting sets as appropriate; notifying patients when contact lenses are ready; ordering, receiving and maintaining contact lens and supplies inventory; making contact lens appointment as appropriate; general office duties.  May work under the direction of a Lead Contact Lens Fitter.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Upholds KPs policy and procedures, principles of responsibility and applicable state, federal and local laws.

  • Explain product options and services.

  • Provides member with information about their fitting fees, vision benefits, contact lens pricing, payment collection and quotations for members.

  • Responsible for ordering, receiving patient orders via online or in person.

  • Maintaining inventory of contact lenses and supplies.

  • Notify patients that their contact lens orders are ready for pick-up, via telephone and pick up status.

  • Receiving and directing contact lens telephone/ voice-mail calls.

  • Responsible for managing canceled, back ordered, or unavailable product.

  • Manage and resolve problems regarding member contact lens complaints, canceled orders through service recovery.

  • Answers members questions promptly and courteously.

  • Contacts member, other vendors concerning contact lens orders and or prescriptions.

  • Review operational data for contact lens product and optometry services.

  • Making contact lens appointments as required.

  • Teach insertion and removal of lenses to contact lens patients (training), under the supervision of the Contact Lens Fitter and/or Optometrist, or designee.

  • Routine cleaning of contact lenses and trail fitting sets as appropriate.

  • General office duties, including organizing and updating contact lens charts and vendor files, receiving, sorting, and forwarding of all department mail/correspondence as required, data entry of patient appointments and other light computer work, maintain department logs and follow established OSHA guidelines.

  • Verbal and written communication with patients, optometrist, managers, staff, and co-workers.

  • Train and/or orient new or less experienced Contact Lens and optical staff.

  • Attend conferences, meetings, and in-service training programs.

  • Use computers, electronic mail system, fax machines, photocopying equipment, telephones, word-processing equipment, and all other office equipment.

  • Assume other activities and responsibility from time to time as directed to support patient care workflow and eye health.

  • Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organization's philosophy and values.

  • Establishes and maintains courteous relations when interacting with other personal, health plan members and the public.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum one (1) year experience fitting, inserting and removing contact lenses and training patients for same.


Education


  • High school diploma OR General Education Diploma (GED) required.


License, Certification, Registration


  • National Contact Lens Examiner - Basic Certification

  • Basic understanding of contact lens and solutions, handling, and care.

  • Requires judgement and actions that affect the coordination of office activities for patient treatment.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • American Board of Opticianry Certification

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.

  • Excellent sales and service skills.

  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task and flexibility.
