IT Applications Engineer V, Integration - VMware Horizon VDI Suite

The Principal VDI Engineer operates as a senior design architect and hands-on leader, comprehensively managing an organization's VMware Horizon environment with a strong emphasis on hybrid cloud integration. This involves expertly designing, deploying, optimizing, and securing complex VDI solutions that seamlessly span on-premises data centers and public cloud platforms, ensuring consistent high performance and user experience regardless of location. A portion of the role is dedicated to advanced troubleshooting of intricate VDI and infrastructure issues, leveraging deep knowledge of networking, storage, and security. Furthermore, they are pivotal in driving efficiency through extensive automation and scripting, leading strategic planning and capacity management for future growth, and providing crucial technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, all while maintaining clear and effective communication with various IT teams and stakeholders.

The Principal VDI Engineer is a senior-level expert responsible for the holistic lifecycle management of the organization's VMware Horizon Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, with a critical focus on hybrid cloud environments. This includes architecting scalable and resilient VDI solutions that seamlessly span on-premises data centers and public cloud platforms (e.g., VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution, Windows 365), leading their implementation and optimization, and ensuring high performance and security across these disparate locations. They are also critical in troubleshooting complex issues that arise from the intricate interplay of on-prem and cloud components, leveraging advanced automation and scripting to streamline operations and ensure consistent user experiences regardless of where their desktops or applications reside. Furthermore, this role entails providing technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, guiding the strategic evolution of the VDI footprint, and navigating the complexities of hybrid cloud networking, identity, and data management to drive continuous improvement and innovation within the virtual desktop environment.

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is responsible for designing and building middleware solutions. Some of the unique challenges this position will face include designing solutions across heterogeneous environments and understanding and communicating about the different layers of technology involved.

• As part of the IT Engineering job family, this position is responsible for leveraging DEVOPS, and both Waterfall and Agile practices, to design, develop, and deliver resilient, secure, multi-channel, high-volume, high-transaction, on/off-premise, cloud-based solutions.

• Leads systems incident support and troubleshooting for complex and non-complex issues.


• Identifies specific interfaces, methods, parameters, procedures, and functions, as required, to support technical solutions serving as an escalation point for complex or unresolved issues related to requirements translation.


• Develops and validates complex testing scenarios to identify application errors and ensure software solutions meet functional specifications.


• Participates in all software development lifecycle phases by applying comprehensive understanding of company methodology, policies, standards, and internal and external controls.


• Develops, configures, or modifies basic to moderately complex integrated business and/or enterprise application solutions within various computing environments by designing and coding component-based applications using programming languages.

• Builds partnerships with IT teams and vendors to ensure written code adheres to company architectural standards, design patterns, and technical specifications.
