GI Technician I
Under general supervision, assists provider in performing endoscopic and sigmoidoscopy procedures. Assists in back office duties by working with either physician or Registered Nurse Practitioner (RNP). Assembles equipment and supplies needed for endoscopic procedures. Maintains equipment utilized in endoscopic procedures. Participates in computer data input and Quality Assurance activities within the department. Supports the philosophy of the department and complies with the procedures and standards of care of the department. Position Relationship:A Licensed Vocational Nurse who works under the technical direction of the gastroenterologist and the administrative direction of the Department Administrator of the gastroenterology clinic which provides invasive diagnostic gastrointestinal procedures for in and out patients. Cooperates in relationships with peers and other departments. Within legally established scope of practice, provides care to adults, geriatric and in some cases pediatric patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
- Assesses patient pre-procedure and performs patient monitoring intra and post procedure.
- Performs I.V. starts on patients.
- Maintains equipment in operational condition by sending out for repair or requesting replacement.
- Maintains logs of equipment housed in department.
- Assists provider with endoscopic procedures by working with physician or charge nurse. Performs cleaning of scopes per established procedures within department.
- May participate in the orientation and training of personnel.
- Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with members, patients and staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- One (1) year experience in acute care or abulatory care assisting in the performance of endoscopic procedures.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
