Job Summary:

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position is also responsible for reviewing moderately complex legal agreements and documents, identifying issues and escalating to attorneys when necessary; supporting leadership and legal counsel to ensure accuracy of all statements that need to be waived; assisting in the review of contracts and purchase agreements, managing the completion and filing of moderately complex notarizations, legalized documents, corporate filings, and other corporate documents as needed; supporting the creation and implementation of initiatives for investigating potential fraud; researching, analyzing, and providing insights regarding applicable federal and state statutes and regulations; leveraging advanced knowledge to conduct research; supporting legal counsel providing guidance to business leadership during transactions; and monitoring the development of agreements and contracts.

  • Contributes to information and data management by: independently organizing and maintaining databases of legal documents/work products and files with minimal review from attorney(s); tracking and monitoring status of standard and nonstandard cases and documents for ongoing matters; and notifying attorney(s) and stakeholders of updates and changes.
  • Supports legal document preparation by: independently reviewing and preparing standard and nonstandard forms and files for certain entities; preparing standard and nonstandard materials and work documents to support attorneys summaries for case/discovery strategies; finalizing production of standard and nonstandard reports and other necessary materials for function activities upon direction and request of the attorney(s); and interpreting broad guidelines to ensure timely delivery of complete and accurate documentation in accordance with case requirements.
  • Performs case-relevant legal research by: conducting factual research for specific topics relevant to the attorneys case and analyzing queries from attorneys to make recommendations to address matters at hand; independently providing standard and non-standard content and fact-checking to stakeholders (e.g., in-house counsel, claims/risk managers) to ensure compliance; and drafting legal memoranda, recommending possible solutions and strategies to address attorneys concerns.
  • Contributes to resolving legal issues and potential risks by: identifying standard and nonstandard issues that might interfere with legal teams goals or activities; creating and implementing solutions and recommendations to address issues with regular review; independently creating materials for presenting solutions and recommendations to attorney(s) and related stakeholders; and providing standard and nonstandard suggestions for identifying potential risks.
  • Supports ongoing legal function initiatives by: contributing to and collaborating on team projects with impact beyond ones own team; coordinating and overseeing standard and nonstandard events and activities between internal and external business units; compiling and summarizing data and facts regarding operations and other information as needed; interpreting general guidelines to communicate with project owners, team members, and internal stakeholders on standard and nonstandard matters; and interpreting broad guidelines to implement innovations to accomplish work, increase project efficiencies, and effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Social/Physical/Life Science/Liberal Arts, Engineering, Business, or related field AND minimum three (3) years of experience in legal administration or directly related field OR Minimum six (6) years of experience in legal administration or a directly related field.
  • Fulfilling paralegal licensing/certification aligned with state requirements (e.g., California Business and Professions Code, Sections 6450 through 6456).
  • Certificate of Paralegal Training OR Juris Doctorate.

  • Fulfills paralegal licensing/certification aligned with state requirements for any state in which Kaiser does business.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of experience in commercial real estate transactions including land use, leasing, environmental, dispositions and acquisitions, construction, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in contract law, including inbound vendor contracts and supporting procurement operations.
