Job Summary:

This positionoversees the following areas: 

Creative Strategy and Direction: This position hasaccountability forcreating, planning, and delivering creative and content vision and strategy for the Kaiser Permanente and directing creative expression of the brand across the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining a cohesive visual and thematic style for projects and campaigns while continuing to enhance the brand expression for differentiation in the marketplace. 

Enterprise-wide Creative Teams.  This position will lead a large team of creative resources that includes writers, editors, graphic artists, videographers, animators, project managers and other specialized creative staff. With direct report leaders, this role will work to establish consistent quality, internal processes, and overall performance across all creative teams. Responsibility will also include team financial management, resources management, creative approval, and brand governance approaches.

Client Relationship Management. This position will oversee strategic relationships with business partners across the body of Creative Services work. This includes setting the standard and strategy for the counsel, quality, and scope of services provided to internal and external business partners. This position will provide guidance and participate as needed to ensure that the Creative Services is appropriately fulfilling business partners needs and driving business impact.

Strategic Planning and Process Excellence. This position will convene and set strategic planning, demand planning and overall operational excellence within the team. At the helm of the new team, this leader will govern and approve all process design including demand planning, workflow management, staffing and budget planning. They will also provide leadership through innovation including staying abreast of industry trends, process improvement best practices and optimization efforts to reduce cycle time and eliminate waste and redundancy while maximizing resources for the greatest business benefit and output.

This position will be responsible for providing ideal work experience to all employees, ensuring optimal engagement, professional development and positive and inclusive work environment. Because of the integration, employees will experience a lot of change. This position will work with senior leaders and key stakeholders to instill confidence in the team, and reinforce benefits of the change to a shared services model,.

Resource Management -The leader will oversee the allocation and utilization of various resources internally and externally including GCCs (global capability centers) to ensure business success and efficient operations. They collaborate with business and functional leads to identify resource needs, plan resource allocation, and track resource utilization, aiming to optimize efficient and minimize bottlenecks. 

Content Strategy, Management, and Execution - This role develops and implements a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with enterprise business objectives and ensures connection to audiences in the most effective and efficient ways. They oversee the entire content lifecycle, from planning to creation to distribution and analysis to deliver effective and efficient content at scale. The leader must define business requirements for tool and technology investments and inform financial business cases to secure funding. 

Innovation. The leader will work to stay ahead of creative services trends and innovate for Kaiser Permanente. This includes innovation in creative style and content, as well as innovation in tools and processes that enable us to be efficient and best complete work. This leader should also promote innovative ideas and solutions in line with business priorities and goals. 


Essential Responsibilities:

This position hasaccountability forcreating, planning, and delivering the creative vision and strategy for the Kaiser Permanente brand and directing creative expression of the brand across the organization. They are responsible for maintaining a cohesive visual and thematic style for projects and campaigns while continuing to enhance the brand expression for differentiation in the marketplace. This position will provide leadership, expertise, and future vision that will support and enhance the Kaiser Permanente Enterprise Creative Services Team. This means developing senior relationships across the enterprise, setting a standard of excellence and efficiency, and effectively managing the internal business of creative services as well as a creativity standard aligned to the Brand, and that Kaiser Permanente and patients or members expect. Additionally, this position will attract, develop, retain, and lead an expert staff that will execute creative services responsibilities. 

The role includes the following responsibilities to achieve its goals:  

  • Oversee delivery of high quality and impactful creative deliverables across all capability teams; provide creative guidance to Team Leads as needed, particularly for high-stake campaigns and deliverables.
  • Establish creative standards that define how best to represent our brand; setup processes that continuously review all work for adherence to brand standards and compliance.
  • This role must balance competing priorities, resolve resource conflicts, and ensure resources are available where and when needed.  
  • Collaborate with regional and national Marketing and Communication leaders to direct brand and creative expression to ensure that messaging and content are of highest quality and in line with corporate brand standards and the organization-s strategy.
  • Lead the team with a focus on high-impact creative, operational excellence and efficiency-reducing waste in all processes and prioritizing internal creative execution over external agency engagement. 
  • Lead strategic planning and demand planning to ensure Creative Services works in alignment with Kaiser Permanente-s strategic goals and keeps pace with changing marketplace demands and trends.
  • Establish processes to measure and report on impact and performance of creative output.
  • Manage budgets across creative services including best practice and efficient vendor/supplier strategy and management. This includes overseeing creative agency vendor consolidation across the enterprise.
  • Lead efforts to educate business partners on how to effectively use Creative Services core service offerings. 
  • Ensure creative work solves business partner needs; provide direct counsel to the partners or guidance to team or leads to elevate quality of strategic creative counsel provided.
  • Oversee the work of the creative team to ensure project teams are meeting timelines, budget, requirements, and scope expectations of the business partners.
  • Own critical business partner relationships and provide direct supervision for work done for these business partners. 
  • Build a cohesive team culture and lead any programs or initiatives needed to support team members through the centralization/integration process.
  • Build career paths and provide professional development to attract and retain top talent.
  • Oversee all hire/fire staffing decisions affecting the Kaiser Permanente Enterprise Creative Services team.

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience building and maintaining an internal creative agency including marketing and communication creative strategies (agency and corporate).

  • Experience in executing creative work (editorial, video, digital, or graphic design), and evaluating and bringing new marketing and communication programs and strategies for internal and external audiences strongly desired. Successful experience in the leadership, coordination, and management of large initiatives, including change management, to deliver successfully aligned outcomes in a large complex matrixed organization (multi-regional and multi-product).
  • Experience in effectively communicating with a diverse workforce - geographically, educationally, professionally, and more - with targeted communications tailored to their needs.
  • Experience in developing and executing plans to address prioritization of work with various timeline requirements.
  • Experience working in highly regulated industries such as health care, insurance, financial services, preferred five years or more experience with leading large organizations, preferably across multiple geographic locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, communicate and work effectively with senior executives and a broad cross section of business and project management leadership from a broad range of functional areas. Demonstrated ability to influence and motivate interdisciplinary teams and individuals who are not direct reports.
  • Prior experience that demonstrates leadership in developing strategic initiatives and driving change across very large, decentralized organizations and despite some level of ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated ability in integrating numerous complex projects, integrating multiple strategic and operational models, assessing outcomes/gaps, and managing resources to meet project timelines.
