Assistant Director Nursing and Clinical Practice
- Assists director in guiding and defining nursing practice, setting limits, identifying and interpreting the scope of practice for RNs, LVNs, and MAs, other Allied Health Professionals, as delineated by each medical center, and other medical offices support staff. Assists in consulting with Chiefs of Service and Credentialing office with regard to PA protocols and privileges. Assists in providing interpretation and advising changes to the Nursing Practice Act, LVN Act, MA and Physician Assistant Regulations and other pertinent regulations to administration, physicians, staff and managers.
- Assesses professional and clinical development/education needs of nursing staff, based on standards of care; the major focus being on the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of programs to ensure and improve the competence of staff.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates nursing competence & professional development programs to ensure staff are competent to perform their jobs.
- Works across the medical center to ensure that competencies meet professional standards and that planning of programs is efficient across specialties/job categories.
- Partners with leadership and management teams to meet the strategic organizational goals related to maintaining a competent, qualified professional work force.
- Utilizes research to improve care, providing consultation in areas of clinical expertise.
- Provides staff with information of current clinical practice, and ensures that policies/standards and practice meet regulatory requirements related to competence.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates effectiveness of orientation/training/cross-training programs that are based on an assessment of individual skills and evaluated by clinical competency outcome criteria.
- Conducts research into professional and community practice standards, technology, and clinical innovations for improved service within assigned care area Performs rounds/tracers to ensure staff meets the established performance standards as set by Kaiser Permanente, the Nursing Practice Act and established state/local legislation and regulation requirements.
- Participates in reviewing and updating all policies, procedures, protocols, and standardized procedures for content, appropriateness, consistency, and compliance with state/local legislation and regulations.
- Participates in the ongoing quality improvement program which examines consistent nursing practice, validating outcomes by research and data collection.
- Represents the TPMG Ambulatory Nursing perspective at all levels of the organization, sharing best practices and resources in the absence of the Director of Nursing Practice, the duties and responsibilities of the DONP may be delegated to this position based on their competency and credentials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists in maintaining administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the proper charting and documentation of care in the outpatient setting. Assists in establishing training programs to support expanded roles.

- Minimum two (2) years of experience in in-service education in clinical service area within the last three (3) years required.
- Bachelors degree in nursing required.
- Registered Nurse License (California)
- Adult learning knowledge required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and group facilitator process skills.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of the California Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, Title 22, QA, BRN regulations.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- BLS instructor preferred.
- Masters degree strongly preferred.
