KPWA Resident
Manage the care of patients under the supervision of a family physician or medical attending. Provide longitudinal primary medical care to a panel of outpatients. Communicate complex medical information rapidly and effectively with other members of a health care team. Have the capacity to see four (4) or more outpatient cases in a four-hour clinic session, three (3) or more hospital admissions in a 12-hour period, and have the ability to complete appropriate documentation in a timely fashion. May work shifts up to 12 hours when working on the inpatient services. Manage labor for continuity clinic patients that may exceed 24 hours.
- OUTPATIENT CARE:
- Provide longitudinal primary medical care to a panel of outpatients.
- Learn to perform procedures essential to family medicine including male infant circumcision, outpatient dermatologic procedures, colposcopy, stabilization of musculoskeletal injuries, aspiration/injection of major joints, early pregnancy medical and surgical abortion, long-acting reversible contraception insertion and removal, vasectomy, and OB ultrasound.
- Work effectively within a patient-care team.
- Complete clinic notes, procedure notes, referral requests, L&I evaluations, and other documentation as needed for medical practice.
- Work effectively with medical staff on specialty outpatient rotations.
- INPATIENT CARE:
- Manage the care of patients under the supervision of a family physician or medical attending.
- Perform complete H&Ps on new hospital admissions. Perform CPR on infants and adults as indicated.
- Manage labor, perform deliveries, and repair obstetric trauma under the supervision of a family physician or obstetric attending.
- Assist with major surgeries and C-sections.
- Write or dictate admission and discharge notes, progress notes, delivery notes, and other necessary hospital documentation. As necessary, write orders for physical and chemical restraints.
- Medical doctorate from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school.

- Application through Electronic Resident Application System (ERAS)
- Passing scores on the USMLE
- Foreign medical graduates: complete all ECFMG requirements\
- Possess the attitudes, knowledge, and skills needed for learning the broad spectrum of family practice.
- Work within multiple teams that include inpatient-rounding teams, class peers, curriculum development teams, outpatient care teams, and support groups.
- Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with a diverse population that includes patients, medical staff, faculty, other residents, nursing staff, and medical office personnel.
- Eligibility for Washington State Physician and Surgeon training licensure.
