Medical Records Technician
Analyzes medical records. Identifies documentation deficiencies. Performs medical record review activities. Summarizes and reports results of review activities to hospital administration, medical staff and Health Information Committee.
- Analyzes inpatient and designated hospital-based outpatient records for documentation deficiencies. Follows medical staff by-laws, reimbursement requirements and The Joint Commission standards relative to completion of medical records. Identifies deficiencies and discrepancies.
- Re-analyzes records upon completion of deficiencies by medical, nursing and ancillary staff.
- Notifies practitioners on delinquent/incomplete records. Ensures timely completion of medical records.
- Performs medical record reviews. Summarizes and reports results of reviews to hospital administration, medical staff, and Health Information Management Committee.
- Assists physicians with chart completions when necessary.
- Participates in inservice meetings. Recognizes areas for improvement and skill enhancement.
- Knowledge of routine hospital procedures.
- Post high school coursework in medical terminology, medical records or equivalent related experience.

- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in data analysis, customer service, oral communication, problem solving and teamwork.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in database PC applications.
- One year medical records experience.
